Amazon's positive earnings boost Techs, but huge loss from Ford and larger-than-expected unemployment claims sink blue chips.

"NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- U.S. stocks opened mixed Thursday as investors worried about rising unemployment and a near $9 billion loss from Ford. Strong earnings from Amazon helped to boost the tech sector."

Economy: The National Association of Realtors®/NAR reported a general decline in the the rate of home sales by owners. Even while first-time home buyers are holding back right now, some US cities are rebounding as their rate of home sales increases.

And here is some good news on gas prices:

Energy: Oil prices are at $125.44 Thursday morning after falling nearly $4 Wednesday on continued concerns about reduced demand. Oil was at a high of $147.27 on July 11.

The average price of a gallon of gasoline is $4.026 a gallon in the United States and is declining for the 7th straight day, according to a AAA daily survey.
